Contribute to translations in pootle

Hello
I would like to contribute to Spanish translation of F-Droid client.
I saw that the file es.po is fully translated but there are other files in “locale” folder that maybe need translation: array.pot, default-repo.pot, strings.pot.
I use F-Droid (congrats for the work) and the installation messages and so are in Spanish, but the main buttons ( Available / installed / Updates, and the menu(update /manage repos / search / preferences / about) are in English.
¿Should I directly translate the pending files using the pot templates, and upload here in Pootle or do I have to wait that an admin uploads the template in Pootle and then translate it? I am not sure about how pootle works.

Hi,

Sorry about that, there was something wrong with the setup. Could you look again at Pootle – it should be fixed now. You should see only two files there, array and strings.

Could you also please try just translating one or two phrases, and then report back here so I can test that the syncing back to the source code is working properly.

strings-es.po had already most of the strings translated; I translated 3 or 4 more.
array-es.po was pending, I translated 4 strings, let’s see what happens.
Thank you for the quick response; when you confirm that everything is working ok I can translate the pending strings.

They seemed to work ok. I’ve put out a new release (0.25), which should include those changes. Could you please check in that, and see if the translations you updated have come out right? I want to make sure the whole process is working smoothly from end to end. Thanks.

Spanish translation complete!
I also reviewed all the strings and corrected some small typos.
All the strings translated and manually reviewed.
Is it possible to receive an automatic email when new strings are uploaded to Pootle? If not, I will try to check Pootle each time I receive an update of the application in my Android device.

Hi,

I’d like to submit a Turkish translation and I also updated the few missing or fuzzy strings in French. Sorry for not doing this directly on the pootle server but I really prefer to work with poedit. Besides, as the Turkish language isn’t yet on the list, I would have had to bug you on the forum anyway.

Thanks for the Turkish translation – I haven’t been able to download it from that URL though. It looked like the server was down temporarily, but it’s still not working.

Please note that the content of array-fr.po hasn’t changed, I only added “X-Poedit-Language: French\n” and “X-Poedit-Country: FRANCE\n” header lines so that poedit can automatically enable spell checking for those using it.

Note to self: don’t trust the “cloud”, don’t delete the files from your local disk just because you uploaded them to a cyberlocker website. Saves from doing the same translation again :/
