Two issues with the current DDG in F-Droid:
    - DDG should be spelled collapsed: “DuckDuckGo”, and not like this “Duck Duck Go”
    - Since DDG recently released its official Android Client [1] (it doesn’t seem open source [2], although I’ve sent them a request), it would be wise to add an ‘unofficial’ tag to ddg-android as provided by F-Droid. The problem is that since both clients use the exact same name in GMarket and F-Droid, it creates unnecessary confusion.

Please contact the author of the app with these suggestions, or perhaps even make a patch yourself.

Done [1]. Is there a way to close tickets on the forum? Or mark as done?

I updated our summary and description:

    https://gitorious.org/f-droid/fdroidserver/commit/0966ca73a805fa690d790a8d11163d17f003a936

As noted already though, what the application decides to call itself is part of its source code, and I will leave that up to the developer. I don’t think there’s a need to worry about confusion between this FOSS app and the “official” proprietary one, since the latter won’t be here.

Thanks for looking into this. It would be nice if the description also explained that this isn’t the official DDG client.

Personally I found confusing that I could install simultaneously DDG v0.1 and v1.9, from F-Droid and Market respectively, without one updating the other. Moreover, it was confusing that the two DDG “versions” had wildly different interfaces when launched. Then I found it confusing that the F-Droid provided version was so out-dated (originally I wanted to ask F-Droid devels to update DDG), but when I checked the source code it featured the “older” v0.1 tag. At that point I was lost.

Then I thought that perhaps the two were actually different programmes, and that perhaps DDG issued an official client on the Market. That hunch proved right; but the deduction process was somewhat time-consuming and not particularly straightforward. :)

Anyways, I registered my complaint with the open-source DDG.
