hi, after downloading firefox, fdroid cannot install it. maybe acer e140 is not supported? How to make it supported?
August 3, 2011 at 10:05 am #774As far as I know, your device has an ARMv6 processor which is not supported any more: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Platforms/Android#ARMv6_.28experimental.29
August 3, 2011 at 2:42 pm #775i see, gonna get myself a new android phone anyway.
thanks for that info.
May 12, 2012 at 1:41 am #1956Nice to read.. HTC Wildfire S also has same issue.
Perfectly happy with Zirco browser though.May 12, 2012 at 6:36 am #1957> gonna get myself a new android phone anyway

Do not get things wrong! Follow link in first comment and you will see that there are experimental versions for ARMv6 as well (currently at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25856354).August 6, 2012 at 3:57 pm #2928There are experimental builds available now: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mobile/nightly/latest-mozilla-central-android-armv6/
October 10, 2012 at 8:08 am #4527Firefox 16 is out. I have reopened a bug for MoFo to keep the link updated (now it points to FF14), but could we get FF16 to f-droid meanwhile manually?
October 10, 2012 at 9:49 am #4530They prefer the link changes constantly, to drive people to playmarket (nig htly builds have their own updater). I guess if we didn’t offer apks on the website they ought to offer us next to playmarket as a Download Here button. No matter because many people come to us and we hope to be building it from source, which they will never sanction.
About FF for ARM6 that’s in beta and we will have to come up with a solution soon to support its inclusion.
October 10, 2012 at 10:11 am #4531They should consider offering their own f-droid compatible repo that people can add to the f-droid client as a source. We could then replace f-droid.org repo app with a source build and everyone is happy.
November 21, 2012 at 9:34 pm #5305Firefox armv6 is released for all devices with 800mhz and 500MiB ram, or at least those mentioned on the compatability page. Anyway I dont think we can publish it because the version names would be identical, the client doesnt detect abi: only the version code differs, but thats invisible. Time we built this from source methinks.
November 21, 2012 at 10:34 pm #5306AfaIk ARMv6 version has huge performance problems. I’m not sure whether Firefox will ever make it on ARMv6. The ARMv7 version is fine.
November 23, 2012 at 10:19 am #5315I have lightly tested Aurora nightlies on ARMv6.. it works out of the box but some things seem to take forever or not finish. Also on many ARMv6 devices memory will be tight. However as the typical reason to install it would be to get adblock, nocscript and switchable desktop/mobile view it might work better for the intended purpose once it is fully setup.
November 23, 2012 at 11:32 am #5316The betas are on the ftp now, but they still havent been put on that marketplace operated by a company which funnels its profits into a Bermudan holding company so it can avoid contributing to the countries in which it does business.
They say half of smartphones are on armv6 but what proportion of them have 500MiB Ram (one of the requirements)? High end phones only got more than that about a year ago.
November 23, 2012 at 11:49 am #5317I believe the ZTE Blade has 500 MiB and is fairly popular in the hacker forums. I have installed it on a phone with half that memory and it still works though I have had crashes for large pages. Should I really need it I can setup some swap space. But yes.. memory and performance are problems.
Do not know that many OS alternatives.. anyone tried to compile chrome for ARMv6? Or one of the lower end browsers like links? Links should be pretty easy to port but is very aged, practically no javascript last I looked.
November 23, 2012 at 12:53 pm #5318Even for armv7 it runs much better if you have 500mb or more. The new betas are worth checking out, if you would like double tap to reflow, but otherwise I havent seen much performance boost since the last three versions, though it never crashes. So basically, not too many will care if we dont include armv6 for another couple of releases.
Proxies would be the best way of improving performance, like opera mini. I visit primarily mobile websites and sigh any time I get a desktop version on my p990 with Ff. There is not much of an option to use one with a free browser, sadly.
