    Kiwix is an offline content reader which can be used for Wikipedia as well as other contents (Ubuntu documentation, WikiLeaks, WikiSource, etc). Once you have downloaded the content file (potentially very large), you don’t need any connection to use it. Kiwix is a lightweight software reading ZIM files which you download and store on your device or external storage (SD card).

    Does there is something we can do on our side to speedup/allow Kiwix integration @fdroid?

    You can write up the metadata. There is a sticky in this forum covering the submission of metadata via git, but if you post a best effort here we can help you fix it up. The git repo contains a template—the manual and other recipes should help you with details. I’d love to do it myself , but I have a lot of maintenance to do.

    Very interesting app! I’ll do my best at adding this app.

    Great, daithib8 told me where is the tutorial and I wanted to have a look. If you do that work, this would be really helpful. Let me know if you need more some help/information (ask “Kelson” on IRC Freenode #kiwix channel).

    It seems to build fine for now, thank you. Your way of using make to satisfy the dependencies is quite good. Most apps would just provide the compiled binaries without providing any way of entirely building from source.

    I’ll keep you posted.

    I would love to have this app in F-Droid!
    How is the integrating process going?

    I am sorry to bug you, but just yesterday a new, improved version of kiwix was released. Why is it in the queue so long? I use it often and it’s quite useful and very stable.

    On my side, the reason is a lack of time. I would really be happy to see Kiwix in F-droid… but this is not on the top of my priority list. Like a few other open source project, we are not so many people involved at Kiwix. But, anyone with a good Linux understanding and an some IT knowledge, especially in compilation should pretty easily be able to prepare the package for F-droid. I’m ready to help any volunteer.

    I have open a Google code-in task for this:
    http://www.google-melange.com/gci/task/view/google/gci2013/5854969345343488

    Hope to find a student…

    We have the metadata for this, but it’s not building (loads of errors). Hopefully it will get fixed sooner or later.

    @ciarang

    I have a new GCI (Google Code-in) student who wants to work on this but it is not clear to me:
    * How to see compilation errors (on your side)?
    * How to commit a compilation fix?
    * How to relaunch a compilation (on your side)?

    I have found this page which does not deliver these information:
    https://f-droid.org/wiki/page/org.kiwix.kiwixmobile

    As far as I can see the compilation command are not exactly like in Kiwix “COMPILE” file:
    https://gitorious.org/f-droid/fdroiddata/source/c04b01b7aa8d357de8d71508006c7f162488ddd7:metadata/org.kiwix.kiwixmobile.txt

    the command for the compilation in the COMPILE file are:
    ./autogen.sh
    ./configure –disable-staticbins –disable-manager –disable-server –disable-launcher –disable-indexer –disable-installer –disable-searcher –disable-reader –disable-components –enable-android –enable-compileall
    cd src/dependencies && make android-deps && cd –
    cd android && ./build-android-with-native.py
