    Hi,

Stellarium is a really nice software on linux and it has an android port too:
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.noctuasoftware.stellarium&hl=en

It’s a non-free (as in free beer) software at the play store, but AFAIK it’s a GPL-2 licenced software and they have build instructions for android on their wiki:
    http://www.stellarium.org/wiki/index.php/Android_port

I have no experience in android development but as a user it would be nice to see this application in the f-droid repo.

    Best regards,
    Lénárd Szolnoki

As much as I would also like to see an open source port of Stellarium to Android, I don’t there is one. If you look at the build instructions page referenced above (http://www.stellarium.org/wiki/index.php/Android_port) you can see this note, which refers to the app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.noctuasoftware.stellarium&hl=en) referenced in the post:
“Note: There is a paid Stellarium Mobile port for Android by Noctua Software. Noctua Software was established by Fabien Chereau, who is the original author of Stellarium, and his brother. Stellarium Mobile is Fabien’s fork/port of Stellarium which was originally created for Nokia smartphones. Said app is not related to the port discussed on this page; this port is being developed with the intention of being merged into Stellarium-proper and becoming an official Stellarium.org-supported port, or at the very least staying up-to-date with any changes made to the official version of Stellarium and deviating from it minimally.”

It actually appears that Stellarium Mobile from Noctua is under the SGI Free Software License B version 2.0, so I guess it is open source, but it’s unclear exactly where they’re storing the source code. They have two older versions for download on their webpage at http://noctua-software.com/stellarium-mobile and refer to merging into the Stellarium trunk at https://code.launchpad.net/stellarium/ but I don’t see an Android build there.
