Recently British newspaper The Guardian have revealed that Whisper Systems are tracking it’s users even thought they’ve requested not to be.
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/oct/16/-sp-revealed-whisper-app-tracking-users
While I don’t think this necissarily applies to TextSecure I believe this should be taken into consideration if F-Droid are considering distributing binaries.
October 26, 2014 at 8:36 pm #13099Whisper and Open WhisperSystems are wholly unrelated entities.
The company that make the Whisper app were the ones implicated, Open WhisperSystems was not involved at all.
October 28, 2014 at 5:39 pm #13118OK, guys. If you look at my posts in this thread, you will know that I have been heavily criticizing Textsecure/Whisper System/Moxie for going with proprietary Google and removing security features, such as the ability of the user to generate a new key. However, WhisperText LLC out of California has nothing to do with Whisper System that does Textsecure. Those are totally different entities.

November 2, 2014 at 6:46 pm #13219Hi pejakm,
thank you for your effort! i have testet the websocket version for the last week and my only concern is battery usage. This version of TextSecure seems to be responsible for 50% battery loss in about 6 hours whithout doing anything over night. I see many bam_dmux_wakelocks which are connected to network access. also in comparison to whatsapp this version of textsecure has more than double as many wakelocks as whatsapp.
Just wanted to report my experince. Still thank you!
November 8, 2014 at 9:50 am #13303Pejakm could you setup a repo so i can keep up to latest version until it gets added into fdroid main?
November 17, 2014 at 2:04 pm #13412Any news on this?
November 17, 2014 at 4:42 pm #13415@catchycontag: Follow this PR for latest development: https://github.com/WhisperSystems/TextSecure/pull/1960
@zikalify: Would love to, but moxie specifically asked me not to distribute binaries, sorry.
December 28, 2014 at 4:33 pm #13910Hi guys,
I’m new to F-Droid and REALLY would love to see TextSecure on this platform. As I didn’t read the whole thread, just two quick questions:1.) Are there any news regarding the current status?
2.) Could the issues, which prevented TextSecure from being available on F-Droid, be resolved?January 6, 2015 at 8:41 pm #14063It’s not that simple, basically refer to my posting in https://f-droid.org/forums/topic/redphone-and-textsecure/
January 13, 2015 at 12:36 am #14142A little update on Textsecure:
There was a major vulnerability found last October-November. And Moxie’s response (not surprisingly) – fixing “feels pretty cumbersome” and “I dunno.”
Also, Open Whisper System is now accepted into the family of such a bastion of privacy, as Facebook (kids love it, NSA approves). So, if you had any doubt about this app before, now you can sleep well at night (sarcasm).
